Better Basics Reads is a program of Better Basics (a United Way partner agency) that brings hundreds of volunteers into Birmingham area schools on a single day to read out loud to students in pre-K through 5th grade. Volunteers ask questions to ascertain student comprehension and give each student the book to take home. Drummond employees have read to over 1060 students in the past 4 years.
